Strange loud knock when lightly pressing on gass pedal
So I have a crx, with the drivetrain taken from a integra gsr. I do have a slight valve tick at idle which is sorta normal for b16a so I have heard. The real problem is when i feather the throttle in a higher gear (starts in 2nd) it makes this terible knocking sound. It does change with rpms, and seems to be just there when I feather the gas pedal. I should mention when i let the car sit for couple weeks this issue wasnt present for the first 20 min of driving. Aswell sometimes when the engine is cold the noise isnt present. Im planing on trying 2 things in the near future. Setting my valve lash (making sure its correct) and the other is filling my engine up with 5w 40 assuming this might help, I heard of track builds using 5w40 and even thicker oil in their cars. My check engine light also is on sometimes and off at other times. Ima check my obd1 and yeh. I have no idea what it is. Please help
The only 3 things that come to mind causing ticking or knocking.
- Your motor mounts are all good and there's no metal to metal contact? Sometimes the rear L bracket from tranny to mount cracks so take a peek there.
- Could possibly be getting a bit of rod knock, could try adding some Lucas engine oil stabilizer- that stuff that makes the oil more goopy and sticky?
- If you have a b16a head with the old style lost motion assemblies, those things are terrible and tend to stick causing noisy valvetrain. I would highly suggest installing the new spring style.
Hard to say with out hearing it in person..
You might have a loose/dirty or corroded connection somewhere causing your check engine light aswell. Would need to get on it checking the code as soon as it pops up..
