Guys, I am seeking an ECU to fire up a 2004 EX parts car I have. Is the ECU unit specific to an EX and would that work for 2001 thru 2005 models or MUST I find a unit from a 2004 only. I am about to hit the salvage yards in my area and wondering what year and what model would have the ECU for my car. thanks........

 

Immobilizer is going to say no to that plan.

Will need to program the ECU to the immobilizer system.

 

Back to my original question, WHAT other models from what other years would possibly have the same ECU as in my 04 EX......thanks...

 

01-05 that matches your transmission and VTEC status.

 

Thanks Ryan, that s what I wanted to know. So , ANY ECU , EX or LX will physically plug in , and run the engine, once key, immobilizer are compatible, from any 01-05 with same tranny and VTEC type. Great. Seems I had a different year model ECU in the past and it would not physically match plug ins. Much help, thanks

 

Whats the easiest way to tell a VTEC or non VTEC car if the engine is not there....thanks....

 

Maybe by decoding the VIN # somehow to tell if originally had a VTEC engine or not?

 

Great, now, where do I find out what letter or number and where in the vin that digit would be. The last salvage yard I was at, the operators info said I would need an ECU from a 2004 or 2005 EX ONLY. Other years won t work..........not the info I got here, go figure......

Sunroof cars had VTEC. I don't think any of the lower trim levels had a sunroof

 

Need the extra 10hp to move the added 50lbs for the roof.
