D16a6 ignition timing problem
I just put a d16a6 into my sedan. This is a fresh account bc it won’t let my into the other anyway
I swapped my sedan d16a6 ob0 head td02 to pm6 ecu FYI
just history can skip
at first no start hard starting in fact lots of resistance it felt like. I researched and read to do the mechanical timing asf or asm apm idk what that meant as per manual I’m guessing. Then retard the cam one tooth. I did that and it started but when I went to do the ignition timing with a harbor freight timing light set at roughly 18 degrees on the dial on the back of the gun. I could only get close to lining up the timing marks and that was only when I had the distributor at full retard. This was with a 106 tooth belt.
currently
I have swapped out the 106 tooth belt for 107 tooth belt and counted 19 teeth on the water pump. Set mechanical timing as the manual says and the same hard resistance kind of starting. I retard the cam one tooth and it started. This time when I do the timing the closest I can get the timing marks to the timing cover pointers is about 1 O clock
when I have the distributor at full retard. When I set the distributor to full advance the timing marks go to about 2 O clock. FYI when I retarded the cam I was assuming that clockwise was the correct direction. The same as the distributor. Is this correct?
thats where I’m at
not sure which way to go on the cam I don’t want to go too far I’ve already hurt this motor enough thus far just if the process of timing it.
thanks in advance
