Default B20Z2

I was at my local junkyard and saw a CRV with a B20z2 with auto tranny. The motor looks decent at least from outside and a thought crossed my mind if it’s possible to throw it onto my 88 civic and put a manual transmission on it? Im not sure if Honda uses two different blocks one for auto and another for manual transmission. If it’s possible to do that is B20z2 engine worth the hassle of swap? If it can be converted what tranny should I go with. I appreciate a response.

Yes, it will fit. You'll need a B-series cable transmission, or B-series hydro transmission with a hydro to cable conversion. The B20's are not as good for boost as the B16, B17, or B18, so if you're wanting to eventually go that route, I would not do the swap. What transmission you want depends on your desired gear ratios and your budget. Look up a B-series transmission calculator (Zeal Autowerks) to compare the different transmission ratios which are available. Is it worth the hassle? Only you can answer that question. What are your goals with the car?

thank you for the clear and concise response. If I have it my way I would swap to preferably a B18 or even a B16 VTEC bit with the current supply issue and prices they are way more than am willing to pay. I’ll look around and see if I come across a better option.
