Give Honda $25 for a day of access to the service manuals and electrical diagrams.

What pins are power and ground, I need to do a bench test and need to know the right ones.

Only pin 32 shows power.

13 and 17 are ground.

What is on page 2?

You should list the model vehicle and year.

Power to the gauge control module comes from (1) under-hood Fuse No. 15 (10A) via a white wire to Pin No. 36 and (2) Driver's under-dash Fuse No. 5 (7.5A) via a brown wire to Pin No. 32.

Ground comes from (1) G501 via a Brn wire to Pin No. 13 and (2) G502 via a Blk wire to Pin No. 17.

The gauges and indicators are part of the multiplex integrated control system. Information for these indicators is communicated from control unit to control unit across multiplex communication lines.

Thanks tech8. I think this user posted another thread about the cluster rebooting and wanted to power up the cluster on the bench to see if it keeps rebooting.

Without his car info., I would have been guessing and using extra time to match the information from what was posted.

Everything seemed to be checking out right when bench tested

I tested the power coming from the harness plug and it has constant voltage. So I can’t imaging it’s anything to do with the harness, and now this is showing that it’s fine.

Anyone have anymore ideas?, I can’t think of anything else. Should I take it to the Honda Dealer to get it diagnosed?

I still think it is the load from the lighting circuit. Power supply in the cluster can't keep up and reboots. Had a similar issue with an Element cluster but the blinking out was far more rapid.

It’s weird because, I tested the voltage from the harness and it has constant voltage. The voltage doesn’t jump around at all. I hooked up a constant 12 volts to the instrument cluster and it worked perfectly fine and didn’t blink off and on. Maybe because their was no load pulling from it? The dash and cluster only blink when I plug the cluster in. Maybe when the cluster is under load theirs a resistor inside that can’t keep up?

Yeah exactly, the dash lights are run through the cluster as that is where the dimmer lives.

On the bench, no load from the dash lights. Could unpin the dash lights from the cluster harness and see if the problem goes away.

I found my code reader and put it on the car. The code it pulled was a U0155. loss of communication with your Instrument Panel Cluster Control Module (IPC).

How should I trace the issue?

You are getting that code because the cluster is rebooting.

I think it is time to replace the cluster.

Are their any relays or fuses in the gauge cluster circuit? That I should check. I want to believe it’s the cluster. But Im having a hard time thinking it’s that. because the last time I tested it it was working properly. I would have to test it one more time with a load on it to really make sure if it’s the cluster or not.

Looks like the cluster is directly powered by the fuse panel. AKA the MICU, they are known to fail but typically have a slew of other issues.

You could prove the power situation by back probing the cluster plug while installed in the car. See if the voltage drops out in sync with the rebooting.

Ohh okay, yeah I haven’t thought about that. I’ll give it a try and watch for a voltage drop.
