Default Building a battery

Hi all. I've already googled the title. And, I've found a lot of information for building a battery for charging stations, RVs, and electric cars. But, I can't seem to find out if this is something actually viable to do for a car battery to replace one that you might buy at Walmart or the like. I need a new battery. And, while I'd like something like an Optima or something that has some better power than a typical battery, the price is certainly higher than a traditional battery. I live in a climate that does get cold. So, part of my desire is to have a battery that can handle that. Plus, if I do decide to add things that will require higher CCA later, I'll be happy to have it. I appreciate any constructive feedback. Again, I've found this to be something that people have done for off-grid living and in applications where the battery is meant to be drained and recharged. I'm just wondering if it's something that can be used in a normal car with an alternator and such. Thank you.

I'm no electrical engineer, and I'm sure it can be done, but batteries for off-grid living don't need to be resistant to bumps, movement, heat etc. If you have a lot of knowledge I'm sure you can design some sort of shock-proof battery for the car, but it will cost you more time and energy than just buying one.

You can get automotive batteries for under $100, or if you wanted to spend more for an AGM battery you can find them for under $200 if you look hard.

My take would be to try building a battery for a non-automotive application first if you wanted to go that route and see how it does

Skip the optima, thay are ****.

Go with a normal lead acid and replace it every 5-7 years.

Interstate is a solid brand and is cheap at Costco.
