Default B series intermittent cutting out

B18c4 in Ej6, obd2a with mapped p28

At cruising speed the car with cut out and start up immediately, like a cough. The rpm gauge will flick down to zero during this 'cough' and then will read correctly. I think this is unusual because I never take it out of gear when it coughs as it happens so quickly.

Occasionally when this happens, the main relay will click, the cel will come on, the car will be limited to 3k revs and the idle will be sat at 2k rpm. Trouble with this is, there will no fault codes stored when this happens. I've checked multiple times

I'm unsure if the two symptoms are related but if I could get help on either of them, or both that would be great.
Thanks a lot

Sounds like a distributor issue.

I have tried another distributor as I thought it may have been one of the sensors inside but it continued to do the same thing.
