J30A1 Exhaust/Intake for **some!!!** more sound?
Looking for recommendations for my '02 J30A1 for exhausts or intakes for a bit more sound. Not worried about getting more performance, but I would like to be able to hear it better without a reduction in reliability. It's my daily so I would like to keep drone to a minimum- it does not need to be very loud. I would also like the exhaust sound to still keep its form and not just be loud. I've heard an axleback exhaust could be a good idea, and that cold air/short ram intakes aren't a good idea for reliability, but I'm not sure what I would go for. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Intakes dont really affect reliability in any way, but they are nice for sound, since they are only loud when you are on the throttle and are quiet when you are idling or cruising.
I would start by putting a cone filter on your stock intake pipe and see if you like the sound.
Re exhaust, good exhausts cost a lot, especially good and quiet ones. APEXI WS2 is my favourite for deep but not droning note

Thank you for the response! So the cone filter would be inside of the stock airbox? Most of the reliability issues I've heard of come from oil or debris issues with the short ram air intakes replacing the airbox, or heating of the replacement metal intake tube coming from the intake.

Well heating of the replacement metal tube wont affect reliability but it can actually cause you to lose power.
What you might want to do is to remove the airbox (keep it safe in case you want to put it back on later) and then find a cone filter that fits on the end of your existing intake pipe (black plastic?). I don't know the v6s too well, but this would be a good way to see if you like the sound, and then you can decide what to do after that.
For your trial filter, can use something cheap online, once you know the diameter you need. Once you decide what you are doing, then you can decide if to invest in a more expensive filter/intake. I've run the AEM intake and dryflow filter for about 12 years and it is still in great condition, and the filter element is still in great shape. I don't ever plan to switch to one of those filters you have to oil like K+N, i like my dryflow filter. Just wash it every year or so and good to go
