Hi all, I've been going through the restoration/build threads on the forum and they've been a great help in working on my own DC2R, but I'm looking for some specific advice..
I'm in the process of treating surface rust on the underside of the car and I noticed that a lot of the seam sealer is missing along the rear of the floor pan on one side of the car. This has obviously got some moisture inside as there is some rust and the panels are separating slightly. I'm wondering what the best approach to this is - I'm guessing that reapplying seam sealer would be a bad idea, since its already got some moisture inside. I've removed the interior to check the inside of the floor and there is no rust visible there and the car is parked indoors. Am I better off leaving it as is and just avoiding the rain, or can I do something to stop it getting worse?
The easiest method is to use a 1/4 inch right angle grinder with some Roloc disks. Run down the seam and remove all the paint, rust and old seam sealer. I also use a flat wire wheel attachment to get in between the 2 sheets of metal. then use POR15 metal prep or rust bullet, either will give a nice zinc coating. hit with a coat of epoxy primer, then run a bead of seam sealer all the way across, then seal with NO1 champ white. Done.
