2004 honda civic ex battery drain problems that cause car to die while driving
Ok so i have been having this problem with my 2004 Honda civic ex where i will be driving the car my abs light will come on and my head lights will start flashing and my speedometer will stop working and fall down to zero even while moving and eventually the car will die completely. Once car dies if i try to start it all the dash lights will flicker and the starter wont even attempt to turn over the engine. Now sometimes if i get a jump the car will start right up but then the process starts all over again until the car dies again. one thing i need to mention is that i have had this start to happen to me where the headlights will start to flicker but then i hit a bump hard enough and everything goes back to normal and the car acts perfectly fine like there never was a problem to begin with. this issue seems to happen intermittently also if i dont unhook the positive battery post after the car has died the next morning the battery will be completely dead to the point of it saying it is a bad battery when tested. i have replaced the battery several times because of this issue. the alternator is brand new, along with the starter, and the ignition switch i feel that there must be an exposed wire somewhere that has to do with the abs system that is grounding out and keeping my alternator from being able to charge my battery correctly since sometimes hitting a hard bump will get the issue to stop completely. Putting a brand new battery in it seems to get the problem to go away for a little while but eventually that damn abs light will come on and the problems start all over again and yes the abs light ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS comes on as soon as the problem starts. someone please help me i have done and checked just about everything i know of and cant seem to fix this issues i have had the new alternator checked and comes back fine and i have replaced the battery with a brand new one about 5 times. Oh i have also replaced several relays and that hasnt fixed the issue i am going to try replacing the ac relay tonight and see if that helps or not. Please if anyone has any suggestions please please please tell me any ideas of what i should do this is my only Veachel atm and i need it running.
Sounds like a bad alternator (I know you said was new but is it a reman?) or the grounding points at the alternator are poor or loose.
These symptoms are what I had when I had a bad alternator and a stripped adjusting bolt at the alternator bracket.

Well the alternator that i had in it had a lifetime warranty so just to eliminate the alternator being the problem i went ahead and got a new one that i just put in yesterday but i am still having the same issues. The battery i had in it was fully charged but now after starting the car a few times and the battery is now just under 12v and the car will no longer start the only thing that happens when i try to start it is i get a clicking noise an electrical clicking noise with the dash lights flickering not a clicking noise from the starter. but with what you just said about the grounding points at the alternator i am going to check to see if any of my grounding points have a bad connection or worn out wires. Thanks for the reply and help. The alternator that i just got the warranty replacement for was in fact a remaned one just like the new one i got yesterday but i find it really hard to believe that i have gotten 2 in a row now that are faulty so the grounds for the alternator is where i am looking next.
I finally found the problem thanks to you NDNV. I started at the alternators' ground connection and worked my way back all the way back to the battery and just before getting to the battery I found the issue. There was a spot on one of the ground wires coming from my fuse box under the hood that had an exposed spot that was grounding on my aftermarket air filter that was causing it to short out so bad to the point that it had completely burnt straight thew the ground wire, so I have removed that portion of ground wire and replaced it with a new ground wire and that has fixed the issues that I was having. Again, thank you for your post NDNV about checking the grounds going to the alternator if it weren't for your post idk how much longer it would have taken me to finally find the issue.
