91 accord no start is crank sensor the likely suspect?.
Hi all . This car I was given is just not firing. I have fuel timing marks position is good. I want to test CKP but having trouble finding it. Im told it's in front behind balancer. Also told it's inside timing cover and again inside the distributor. I've been told it may be on the back in the bell housing... Car is the same 91 accord.. is there some standard location for sensor? Can sensor be checked with multimeter? Is the CKP more likely to fail than (for example) ignition module. Can sensor be tested without scantool? Thanks to all. Nice having there's forums
I believe the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) is only used to detect and diagnose misfires.
If you specify your year, engine, and what codes you have, someone more knowledgeable may be able to give you more specifics.

I would start with testing the power to the distributor, test the ignition coil and ignition module as you mentioned. Then go on to testing the CKP, CYP and TDC sensors, all of these sensors are found inside the distributor on a 91. The sensors will usually thro a code if they are the issue. The ignition coil and control module on the other hand, will not throw a diagnostic code when they fail.
I wonder who thought to put all that in the distributor. Thanks for the great info . . Put me on the way to the ig module and a fix in the main relay. Runs like .... A Honda. Speedy little thing ..
