Default 96 Civic EX stopped cranking, won't start.

Hello all,

When I tried to start the car, the engine slowly cranked & I heard some clicks but it wouldn't start. Each time I tried, it cranked less and less, until it stopped cranking and all I got was one click. When I turn the key to ON, the dash lights come on, but when I turn the key to START the dash lights go out, but the car wouldn't start.

Battery terminals are clean and tight, I tested battery with multi-meter and it read 12.89 volts. I checked the 7.5 starter signal fuse (31) under the dash and it looked good, but I'm not really sure what to do next.

I appreciate your feedback!

UPDATE: The battery took a jump and I was able to get the car started. I drove straight to the parts store where I originally bought the battery and they tested it for free, which showed the battery was bad. Since it went bad within the 5 year warranty, I got credited $$ towards a new battery, which helped but the same battery cost $50 more than when I bought it 4 years ago, sooo...And now it only has a 3 year warranty. Take this as a prime example of why just testing the voltage with a multi-meter and it reading close to 13 volts, does NOT necessarily mean the battery is good.

Merry Christmas and Happy Happy New Year to all!
