Anyone have any suggestions for a modern head unit with a style that fits the interior? Picked up a sedan after a couple different knock around cars since my last EF and it is pretty mint. I like the look of the oem 1000 head unit because it fits in but would appreciate being able to connect my phone. An FM transmitter works fine for now but the quality isn’t there.
For reference, my last project was a mk2 Jetta with a blapunkt sqr 46. Fit in perfectly with the 80s/90s interior but still had what I needed. Didn’t know they were discontinued so didn’t think to pull it when I sold the car and now am looking for a similar radio.
yeah it’s not, just an example of what I kind of am looking for style wise for my 90 DX sedan
Apologies if this is too modern for you, but maybe worth your consideration IF you can find one... an old style of Kenwood Excelon that I really like for these cars. Specific model I have is the KDC-BT952HD, which apparently was rereleased as a KDC-X996 for 2012. Simple controls and a big display, so not really retro but no annoying busy led button-fest like you get with a lot of decks. Has BT, 3.5mm input (on the back!), and plenty of rca outs. Unfortunately it seems they're getting really tough to find - been about 3 months since one sold on ebay.

I wanted a cassette deck with aux support, I found a Pioneer KEHP4900R that works perfectly and has an aux control port for CD changers. It looks period correct, but with the aux input I can connect a bluetooth adapter so I get handsfree and wireless music capability.
I've thought about getting the factory deck for my car and modifying it for aux input but haven't done that yet. The Pioneer unit has worked really well and tapes sound good on it too.
