Honda newbie looking for Honda performance and purchase advise.
Hey all,
I'm apparently so new that I can't even formally introduce myself. haha I understand the bot and spam struggle though. Anyway, I'll be sure to post in the community section as soon as my probation is up! For this thread I'm going to get right to the point.
I'm planning things out for my next daily driver. I decided years ago that my next vehicle would be a truck, but I was also nervous about making the big switch from a 2-door compact Volvo. Even most mid-size trucks would be a tough transition in terms of MPG, ride quality, and pep, but a 1500 or more is pretty much a "no" for me. The other problem I had with the Taco, Frontier, Ranger, ect. is that none of them excite me in the slightest. My Volvo C30 T5 is nothing to write home about, but it's fun and quirky enough for me to have enjoyed driving it for the past seven years and 160k miles.
Sooooo why would I be considering a Ridgeline then? I've had a dream of adapting my GenV M90 blower to SOMETHING for a while now. I even considered slapping an adapter together when I got a free factory purple 4-dr Civic for about 2 seconds before finding out that the engine wasn't a great one to start with from the get-go. Even then the RL never crossed my mind until I started following ETCG's "Hackhawk" Pilot project. I started doing a little more research, found the Prank parts plate, found out that K-tuner supports G1 RL ECMs, and even found a local AWD dyno tuner with K-tuner capabilities! This is already feeling like a much easier project than all the Buick stuff I've messed with before, and it'll be just as off-the-wall.
Are these Ridgeline engines similar enough to the other J-series engines that the Prank kit will bolt right up? Have people had pretty solid power bumps with maintained reliability? How will the RL transmission and AWD hold up? Will a bigger trans cooler be enough? I'm sure these are super noobie questions that I can search on my own, but I really need to get my two posts in so that I can prove I'm a human with actual Honda interests. lol
