Hello guys , 94 civic ex 5 speed, idles rough when cold sometimes when still warming up almost sound like it wants to stall . Wanted to clean the iacv but my top bolt is almost rounded off, can’t get a grip with vice grips.. . Any ideas to get em loose
Cut the head off the bolt, get the other bolts out, take off the iacv, then you should have space to grip the bolt and remove it. If not, tack weld a nut to the stud and then use that to extract it.
I did that to mine when removing the icav. Took a set of smaller knipex cobra to the bolt which seemed to do the trick. The hardened teeth really bite into the bolt head. Your mileage may vary depending on how stuck it is. Worst case, cut the head off, remove the icav, then remove the remainder of the bolt. Should be easier since there's no more pressure on the threads.
Almost did the same to the TB tensioner, even with a nice 6pt, standard height socket, but switched to a box wrench when I felt the socket start to slip. I've found that a pair of 10/12 and 14/17 low offset box wrenches goes a really long way on these cars. You can pick up individual snap-on, hazet, etc... wrenches that have been lightly used on ebay for 15-25 dollars.
