Boosted D16y8 Cranks but no start after overheating
Alright I recently boosted my d series and on my home from work it overheated (almost hit the red, didn't fill coolant system to specs, had air pocket) so I pulled over asap filled up the radiator with water and made it home fine once it cooled down. I went to start it up around 30 minutes later and it wouldn't start, cranks but seems to not get spark? (I can hear my fuel pump priming as well) waited till the next day and its still not starting. I doubt it jumped timing since it was fine while driving home. Where should I start? Any info would be really appreciated, if the head gasket popped wouldn't it still be able to start?
Not if the compression numbers are too low to support proper combustion. The lack of spark, however, has nothing to do with low compression. Do a compression test and verify the mechanical timing.
I'll be doing a compression test today and will come back with numbers, my last kit broke so I had to order another one
Edit: Not sure if my tester is bad but I'm getting nothing back for compression. Pretty sure timing is all messed up even though it looks fine

You are getting zero compression on all 4 cylinders?
Verify mechanical timing by setting the #1 piston to TDC and evaluating the cam position. If mechanical timing is correct, check valve lash. If valve lash is good, it's time to pull the head and see where your compression is going.
I saw your other thread about a budget build for a turbo D16. Did you have the car tuned before getting into boost? Were you logging when you overheated?

I only tested cylinder 1 and 4 and came back with nothing. Over the weekend ill be checking my timing and checking my oil to see if there's any sign of a bad headgasket or other tell tales.
I was running a basemap that I made and yes I was datalogging as I overheated I believe. The reason I overheated was due to an air pocket in my coolant system due to me not following proper fill up procedures after a new radiator install
And yes Im aware it wasnt smart of me to be driving at all, Ive been trying to find a dseries to build up in the meantime
