Hello. New here. I'm looking for the engine number on my 75. The only number I can find is between the valve cover and the plugs on the front of the engine. This is not where my Shop Manual says it should be.
The data plate on the firewall says engine number ED1-1016551 the engine seems to say HF-06 4726. (??) I haven't been able to find these codes on the google-orator either. No idea the history of this car, so the engine may not be original.
Any help would be appreciated.
Go around to the starter, then look just above it on the back side of the engine where the transmission bolts on. There is a flat section probably covered in oil and dirt. That is where the engine number is.
Thanks so much! Still looking. ...and you're right, she's a dirty girl. I don't know if one is supposed to be able to see this with the engine installed, but I can't. I'm pulling the engine today, so I'll find it for sure.
I cant believe you cant see it but oh well. If you look its there. Yes you can see it with the engine in. Its on the firewall side of the engine just above the starter.
Once again, thank you! You're of course correct. I miss-identified that surface and it was filthy and the lettering is faint. Found and done. Thanks. I needed to apply for title. This thing was sold in the 90's at an estate sale with no paperwork, so.... lots to do. Not the original engine, one more step done many to go. I'll happily post restoration info, if anyone wants to see this car come back to life.
