H22a Bearing and Rings Questions
Hey guys, I have a few questions about my build. I have looked on this forum for a while now and decided to make my own account to ask some questions. I have searched many many forums and have learned alot of things on here. But here are some of my basic questions.
1. I have an h22a that I use in my dirt track car in a 4th gen prelude. I do not know the last time it was rebuilt if ever. I have taken the engine out to freshen it over the winter. I have decent knowledge about engines but want to make sure I do it right. I want to change all of the main and rod bearings, I will be plastiguaging the clearances. My question is that I am wanting to go with the acl race bearings but can't find the correct part number for them. I know alot of people will say to go with the different colored Honda bearings but I am wanting to go the acl route. I am needing standard size if anyone knows the part number that will work for me for both the mains and rods.
2. I am also wanting to replace the piston rings while I am at it. I had compression results as follows, 220-220-220-175. I did a leak down test and determined that I had air coming out of the dipstick which leads me to believe the low compression is from the rings on the low cylinder. Are the nippon rings fine to use or should I strictly go with the Honda rings? Also, I should only hone if I have long vertical scratches that can catch my finger nail in the cylinder correct?
3. Last question is, I am also replacing the cams and valve train and valve seals as well. After I have the engine back together how to you guys reccomemd breaking in the engine since it is going in a race car and I can't just drive it around the street after I have the new bearings, rings, cams and valvetrain?
Thsnk you so much!
