I have an 04 civic EX and need an ECU. Assuming I get the exact part number do I still need to swap the ignition or will it recognize the key? Are the ECUs VIN specific???

 

01-05 EX ECU with matching transmission will work but you will need to have the immobilizer programmed. They are not VIN specific.

 

Is the dealer the only one that can program the immobilizer?

 

So if I buy the ECU and the immobilizer as a set (exact part number) will that work without having to program it?

 

The key that comes with the set won't work in your door or trunk locks. Otherwise yes if they were working in the car they came from the matched set should work in your car.

Locksmiths, independent repair shops, and the dealer will all be able to program the immobilizer. Locksmith and a mobile independent will be able to program in your driveway.
