I'm doing the timing belt and finally got the crank pulley bolt loose and took off bottom timing cover. Went back topside to loosen tensioner and saw cam sprocket was almost 180 degrees off orginal mark on belt! I put the bottom timing cover and crank pulley back on and rotated it counter clock a handful of times and every other time the cam line up with crank tdc like normal and I didn't hear any popping sounds or feel any excessive resistance that might indicate valve/piston interference. I'm guessing while trying to loosen crank bolt with breaker bar and pulley holder tool the belt may have lost tension and skipped? The breaker bar came flying off a couple times because I wasn't applying the force perfectly in line. I wound up getting an impact wrench and it worked. Somehow there was some slack and the marks moved.
I'm just worried about the mismatch paint marks now. Do I have to pull the spark plug and find tdc on cylinder 1 or can I continue as planned? Should I mark the new belt and rotate the cam sprocket to align with paint mark copied from old bel? Whats my next move? Thank for any help and if there's already a thread for this issue please point me there. Thank you all for any help!
