Is your check engine light on?

It could be several things. My gut reaction is a fuel supply issue - clogged fuel filter or a weak/dying fuel pump.

yep i second that
dax is right

sounds like you get just enough gas for the start up but then
you dont have enough getting in afterwards
and the engine dies

remove the fuel filter
while the hoses are disconnected turn the key to the #2 position
where the engine primes
and make sure fuel sprays out of the open line
if this happens
great
replace the fuel filter with a new one
and then try to start again

if the engine still doesnt start after this
then we can move on to others things
