Default Replace 2003 Honda Civic ex OEM radio/cd used

Hi,
My factory radio /cd on my 2003 Honda Civic ex coup died. I would like to replace with the same 2003 factory radio/cd off eBay.
My question: I have my cars radio security CODE which is needed when reconnecting the battery... will my CODE work with the used 2003 factory replacement radio?
Thanks,
Lasa

No, the security code unit is for that specific radio.

Radio codes are freely available. All that is needed is the device serial number.

The rest of the fields at this website can be bogus.

Thanks Tech8 for the quick reply.
Does that mean I would need the "used" radios CODE to enter when replacing or does it mean I can't replace with different factory radio even if for that car.
If I can replace with a same model used one, what would I need to do? register it? take the CODE off the used one?
Cheers,
Lasa

Thanks Ryanthegreat1..
So you think I'll be all right switching out the radio for the same model used one...
Just entering the device serial number on that site you mentioned.
Cheers,
Lasa

Once I go to radio-navicode.honda.com
When I enter my VIN and eBay purchased radio serial # I'm assuming it registers (links) the radio to my vehicle then I will get the code?
Please confirm or correct the procedure needed.
Cheers,
Lasa

There is no need for your VIN. There is no linking. You can put your VIN in if you want. I always put in a make-believe VIN because privacy.

The only piece of data that needs to be factual is the device serial number.

I bought a radio out of a You- Pullit lot for a Civic.

I took the radio to the local Honda dealer.

They ran the numbers and gave me the correct security code with no charges.

Put it in, entered the code and it works perfect.

I tried with a generic VIN and it doesn't work. I tried with my car VIN and it does not work.
How do you make it work? Want to share your wisdom or generic VIN please?

It needs to be a valid 17 digit VIN including the checksum digit. Go grab a VIN off autotrader or craiglist.

Thank you all for your help. I was able to buy and install a factory radio I bought off eBay (looks brand new!) Got the code, it's up and running!
I got excited when the radio turned on that I cranked it up and blew out the front right factory speaker... sigh..
Now I want to buy some cheap speakers that will work with my civic. Don't know anything about speakers and I'm happy with the factory ones and would like to duplicate them.
Does anybody know the watts? I think the speakers are size: 6-1/2 but don't know the watts?
Looked all over for speaker specs for the 2003 Honda Civic EX coupe but not finding anything I understand as useful.
Any help would be welcome.
Cheers,
Lasa
