2001 Civic ex gas smell from rear.
Hello, I'm Arthur, and this is my firs time on this forum. I drive a 2001 civic ex that whenever I get out there is a strong smell of gas around the gas cap area. I have already replaced the gas cap since I found a hole in the other one, I was sure that would fix the problem but I don't think it made a difference. what's bothering me is that there are no EVAP codes, which would narrow down my search. my guess is that it is coming out of a vent line under the gas cap, but it could be coming from the EVAP canister area which I know is on that rear left corner. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
Top of the fuel pump housing can crack and cause gas smell. Remove the rear seat and look under the fuel sender cover for a crack in the plastic cover. Quite common and other posts about it for more info.
Just wanted to re-iterate what Arthur said. My '03 Civic had a fuel pump housing leak which resulted in a gas smell outside and even inside the car. I didn't fix it myself but a local garage took care of it and confirmed it was the fuel pump housing.
