Default Removing VTC strainer ?

Question for you gurus. My buddy has an 05 element. It keeps throwing limp mode for oil pressure switch . He replaced the whole vtec/pressure assm behind the head and the sensor on the side of the engine as well as the seal/filter behind the P/S pump. We tried running it with out the mesh and it seems to have resolved the pressure issue. I realize there is obviously another issue causing the oil pressure issue but he needs the car for work. Are there any long term issue with leaving this mesh/filter out?
He is pretty regular with oil changes so I dont see that being an issue.

Put a brand new screen in?

If it is so bad a brand new screen still causes the pressure code then that engine is on borrowed time.

Try a heavier oil to keep it from run out of the loose bearings so quickly.

I wouldn’t. Look at the size of the oil ports in the head and decide. Make sure you are using a 20wt oil and an oem solenoid. Was the old screen dirty?

Interesting issue here as I seem to be experiencing a similar squawk on my 02CRV. It stutters (sometimes) and throws a DTC P1259. The light will stay on but engine seems to run fine intermittently. R&R a new VTEC ASSY and got 30 miles of normal before a stutter and MIL light limp mode.

I have a VTEC assy from a while back along with the currently removed one and all 3 test good on the OP sw, solenoid resistance level, and power to the sw and solenoid connectors.
No screens are clogged
Recent oil change <500miles (running it for years) O'Reilly High Mileage 5W-30

I do not have the special tools to test teh OP but will search for them.

Are we suggesting a different oil for a solution?

Not sure about this OP sw below the VTEC assy, I would think if it was bad it would have sent a MIL code...?

OE solenoids?
This issue seems to be common with oil change neglect. Does not seem to be your issue. 30wt shouldn’t be an issue. Check all your wiring for cracks, etc
