Issues with my '95 EX-V6
Greetings all. Somewhat new member here, and I recently acquired a '95 Honda Accord EXV6 with the 2.7 liter SOHC engine. It only came with an automatic transmission for that model. I'm having several problems with it so I thought I would see what info I could glean from any members on here as well as any input from others who have had similar issues on that generational model so as to get it up and running again.
My father (original owner/bought it brand new) gave me this vehicle to use/maintain as he is close to 80 years old and has a newer Accord that he uses. The vehicle has over 217,000 miles on it and an exact mileage reading is not possible, due to the fact that the odometer went kaput before he gave it to me. The speedometer, tachometer, the fuel gauge as well as the engine temp gauge are not functioning as well.
The first of these to fail was the engine temp gauge. I replaced the ECT sensor with a new one, hoping that this was the cause and it worked for a few days before all of the dashboard gauges failed within one day as I was driving it back from Florida to North Carolina. This trip back to NC was when I also noticed that ALL of the dashboard backing lights - as well as the Safety Indicator lights - had stopped working. I also noticed that the D4 indicator light was flashing when I had it in any Drive gear. The sunroof stopped working, as well as the cruise control at this point. The power windows also stopped working.
When I made it back to NC, I replaced the VSS on it. The original sensor had "burned up" as I had discovered upon removing it and taking it apart to look inside of it (the sensor) to inspect why this sensor had failed. Replacing these sensors has not solved my problem of the above gauges not functioning.
Another problem I have is that the shift lever refuses to come out of the [P] position into gear unless I utilize the spare key to release the shift lock to move it into neutral or any drive gear.
So far, I have started to take the instrument panel off to access the gauge assembly. I am most likely going to disassemble it and see if there are any "gremlins" involved in it.
I pulled a few codes from an OBDII reader that I have and these are the following codes I have pulled:
P0118
P0500
P1791
P1792
P0725
I went online and purchased the official 1995 ACCORD Service Manuals (P/N #'s: 61SV401, 61SV402, 61SV401EL) for that year and I am currently scouring through the pages to try and figure out how I can get this thing back on the road.
I have a suspicion that I will ultimately have to change out the TCU as I theorize that this is probably the "main culprit" as to why this thing has all of these listed problems.
I appreciate in advance all of the feedback that I receive and if you have any questions that might be more pertinent to advice, please ask away.
Thank you very much.
