Without knowing exactly how this guard installs I can't say for certain that my statements are accurate, but from experience installing bars of this type in the past I can tell you my thoughts.

If this guard installs similarly to the ones I've installed in the past, the guard only affixes to the vehicle at the bottom, under the bumper. In the case of a front-end impact, the force of the impact (if great enough) will cause the guard to bend about its mounting point (under the bumper) and it will push backwards into the vehicle. The force of the impact will transfer through the verticals and the horizontal bar right under the "H" logo and into the front of the vehicle. What this does is take the force of the impact (which would be spread across the whole front of the vehicle without the guard) and transfer it to the "footprint" of those bars which are only a roughly 1" wide edge. Imagine taking a knife and placing it on your forearm and pushing down on it. All your force goes through the edge into your arm. If you turn the knife sideways and place it on your arm and push down on it, now your force is distributed over the width of the knife blade and your arm isn't harmed by the force.

The caveat here is light impacts (like if you're driving down a trail and you push a tree branch out of the way with the front of your vehicle) will be absorbed by the guard and likely no damage will be sustained where-as otherwise paint damage or a broken headlight may result. An impact with another vehicle or deer or something at anywhere above parking lot speeds will likely bend the bar against your front end resulting in heavy, localized damage behind the guard beams. In general, these guards are mostly for show. They mimic one-piece off-road-style bumpers made from steel DOM tubing that tend to be very strong in themselves, and their mountings tie into the vehicle's frame. If this guard were designed with impact protection in mind, there would be a mounting at the bottom (as there is), plus a 2nd tie-in point where a pair of steel members would reach from the horizontal bar under the "H" logo, through the bumper, and tying back into the radiator support. It still wouldn't have off-road bumper levels of strength, but it would be a hell of a lot sturdier. It would also be a hell of a lot harder to install.

What Matt said.

Plus now what might have been just a bumper cover replacement turns into bumper cover, headlights, hood, fenders. and a core support. All of those items are going to get rekt when that brush guard gets tweaked.
