02 Civic transmission went stupid HELP!
I have 2002 Honda civic EX 1.7L, driving on the highway it stopped going. It appears the transmission got too hot and caused it to stop moving. Drained some but not all tranny fluid (BTW it was black not red), added Lucas and new fluid and the car will go for a short time but it seems like once it's hot, it stops moving again. Let it cool a couple hours and it's fine again. I need suggestions on my next step so I don't kill this car. I need it working ASAP! Thanks!!!!
Transmission is smoked. Time to replace it. Had the same thing going on it our 2001. The filter clogs up with clutch material and it's all over. If you're going to replace it yourself, you can get a complete reman with a 3 year/unlimited mileage warranty for about $2000.00. They also provide an external, in-line filter, that can be changed every 12,000 miles, that will extend the life of your transmission til the car falls apart.
As far as using only Honda fluid, that's a myth. If a transmission manufacturer sends you a new unit, with a warranty, along with non honda transmission fluid to fill it.....do you really think it's necessary?
