99 CRV Crank but won't start
Good evening all, was hoping for some help.
I am working on a family members 99 CRV, their regular mechanic is out of commission at the moment and I am a competent shade tree.
Did some tests yesterday, no spark.
Followed the chain of command, bad coil. Long story short, made life easy and replaced the whole distributor. The car has 325K on the clock and the modules looked a bit worse for the wear.
Now-we have spark. Progress! BUT no start. I cannot find a regular set of instructions on how to set the ignition timing after replacing the distributor on the car?
Even at that, I moved the dizzy around a bit and tried it out. Still no start, only crank.
There was fuel coming out of the fuel filter, I do not have the special adapter to check the fuel pressure though.
Thoughts on where to search next or how I can finish ignition timing?

Much appreciated! I will finish the car off soon.I did get it running and it was only the coil that was a problem. I just had a couple other tweaks to do before it would start.
Ok, got her running. She was running normal and all seemed well.
Newest development, after driving it for a while and giving her some gas at a higher speed she starts chugging. Then P0336 pops up with a CEL, crankshaft position sensor.
if I clear the code while driving she drives fine, I can press the gas and she revs right up and goes.
And it’s not every time the code comes up after giving her some gas, it’s mixed. BUT once the CEL comes on the tach is gone, and she stays chugging only.
Could this be related to ignition timing or is this truly a unique issue, that happened at a unique time?
From what I have been reading, the car can do some advance and retard on its own.
I set the timing with a light, with a paper clip shorting the blue plug. I matched the red mark to the fin on the side of the belt cover. But with 325K the belt cover is a bit warped

Hi,
I would test that you have signal,, power and ground at the CPS...
If you do I would put in a new sensor.
If you don't, you will have to find out why not? (trace it back, using wiring diagram)
With that many miles on the car, things that you usually don't see popping up, will.
Sorry.

Update-
Ive replaced the crank position sensor. When the code is cleared it drives normal as if nothing ever happened. But after a little bit, it goes back to chugging and the light comes on. It chugs before it throws the code.
the car does have a rough transmission and has for years.
I feel at a loss, I feel like if it was a transmission problem it wouldn't get better when clearing the code. Im wondering if it is an electrical issue or something else altogether, thoughts?
