1983 Honda Accord 4cyl Zero HP help
Hey so I just got a classic 83 Accord with only 100k miles on it. Super Clean but god bless it she has zero get up and go. I know its only a 4cyl but I feel like she is starving. Im going to change out the plugs and wires. I know a new exhaust would help but man she struggles to get going. Any ideas?
Since it's new to you with 100K miles, I'd do a compression test to make sure the engine is working OK. If that passes, do a complete tune-up. It might be something simple. Do you have a repair manual????
Man Im scared to do a compression test lol I just spent 1300 fixing the front wheel , rotor, brakes , and all that . to fix compression would that mean a engine rebuild? or small adjustments to timing and stuff like that? and no I dont have a manual. Im sure i can find one online
A compression test is simply a way to rule out a major problem. Chances are it's OK, but if you don't rule that out, you are going to spend a lot of time and money -- and gain nothing, other than kicking yourself around the house for the rest of the year!!!
The next thing to do would be a full tune-up including checking the timing, valve clearance, etc. For that, you need a manual.

DIAGNOSE FIRST
My first ever Accord was an 83 hatch back. When i first got the car it was gutless. Come to find out, the secondary's in the carb were gummed up and would not open, so i was just using the primary barrel only. I was able to free it up without dissembling the carb. I think it works off of vacuum, so it is easy to gum up and not know it. If it were mechanical linkage, it would force the secondaries open.
*Easy way to tell is to take off the air filter and look down the carb while you hit the throttle a few times and just watch for it to move.
*You could also remove the carb cover screen and use a Popsicle stick to make sure that the secondaries can move.
