Hey all, just wanted to share what I did for this mod because when I was researching it, it seemed like there were issues with attaching the middle of the bumper (apologies if someone already posted something like this, I didn't see it in my research)

So instead of cutting right away I used a cheap HF heat gun to bend the molding (tested this on a scrap piece first to make sure it formed and didn't distort)

Then I measured the distance for the space from the front of the bumper to the front of the notches where the 96/97 lip slides in (I think it was like 7/8")

I trimmed the bent part of the lip down to that size the best I could and slipped it on and tweaked it with the heat gun where needed

This gave me decent chunk of space to drill and screw the lip to the bumper with full support in the middle, I'm attaching some picture to give a better idea of what I mean:
