I'm the owner of an 87 Civic Si I inherited and am trying to restore. It seems to have two idle issues: 1) Once it warms up the idle surges, and 2) The idle never seems to go below 1500 rpm so I think before I fix the surging I should try to lower the idle (maybe someone previously tried to fix the surging by increasing?). I'm having a hard time finding the idle adjustment location. The Haynes manual describes a location which this seems to be the closest to:
That screw basically started to strip like butter the second i touched it so before I do much more I figured I'd see if I was even in the right place...
Found a service manual - top picture seems to confirm that's the right thing... not sure what the bottom picture is, but that looks more like what i'd expect
Alright thanks to this service manual I think i figured it out. The top one is the fast idle value and the bottom is the regular idle adjustment. The regular idle adjustment i can make the idle go higher (2000+) but not below 1500 so the issue must be in fast idle? Now to figure out how to adjust it without stripping screw further...
