Intermittent crank/no start.
I've done a fair amount of searching and nothing I've found has helped with my situation. Please take that into consideration. I have RESEARCHED ALOT.
I have a 2003 Civic LX 1.7 NON V-TECH
Purchased about 2 months ago// has about 185,xxx miles on it.
There has been about 3 times (and I drive it multiple times a day) since I bought it that I noticed it cranking a little longer than it should before it started, usually about 2-5 seconds. Other than that it has been starting and running perfectly fine for a Civic with 185,xxx miles.
I was recently approaching a traffic light and had to stop. ( Early morning, High beams, wipers and defrosters were on) and I noticed that I lost power steering. Immediately after, i noticed the engine was off completely. No jerking, tugging, lurching or anything to give it away. Just died quietly.
For about 15 minutes to follow it would crank/no start but eventually started up and ran fine back home.
Since then I have had plenty of luck in recreating the issues.
I've managed to get it to cut off 3 times on my street. Everytime was after getting it hot. Everytime it cut off I was slowing down to start turning around to head back the other way and Everytine, I wouldn't know it cut off at all until I went to turn and noticed the loss of power steering.
It dies extremely quietly and with no jerking.
I can confirm that regardless of whether it starts, the fuel pump relay clicks on, the fuel pump hums as if it priming Everytime.
I tried running it on starter fluid and the first attempt didnt work but the second attempt did.
I replaced all the plugs, filled it up with premium gas, used a bottle of dry gas and it was starting perfectly for a few hours. Later that night, drove to the store and made it home thankfully BUT it's back to long cranking before starting and won't start without me flooring it.
I'm used to working on much older vehicles. I don't believe anything to be wrong with my timing because when it runs, it runs INCREDIBLY. I have spark at all 4 plugs. Compression is a little low in cylinder 4. I don't remember the exact measurement but was well above 150.
Also, Ive used my multimeter to check the charging system and everything is as it should be.
I've never had a vehicle die on me so quietly and smoothly.
Also, the immobilizer key does not continue to flash and there is NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.
My live data tool shows everything behaving as it should when it's running. I'm stumped, guys. And unfortunately she is my daily driver.
Please help.
