Condenser Fan short and now bigger problems.
Hello all,
New here.
I have a 2009 CR V, which I purchased about a year ago. It has been an awsome vehicle for traveling back and forth to work.
Last week it started blowing warm air with the A/C on.
Checked the refrigerant pressure and found it was low.
After getting the pressure back up, it blew cold air to and from work.
The next day it was blowing warm air again.
Once I got her home, I put the guages back on and the system was empty.
I ordered a cheap refrigerant leak detector (sniffer) and today I charged the system enough to check for leaks.
The low pressure side Schrader Valve had a small leak so I quickly flicked the stem to see if it had debris in it.
This corrected that small leak..
I went over the entire system without inding another leak. I shut the car off, waited for the condensate to stop dripping from the evaporator drain and checked it as well for refrigerant residue.......nothing.
Started the car up again, with the A/C on full blast. Started tracing the high and low lines with the sniffer again.
As I moved closer to the compressor, I noticed that the condenser fan was not running. I found that one of the wires was barely making contact with the motor. i wiggled the wire and the fan started running.
TO LITTLE TO LATE,, it would seem..
As I got back down to trace the compressor again, I noticed green dyed oil sloooowwwwlllyyy dripping from the hose on the back of the compressor (where the hose on the passenger side of the condenser connects to it).
I am guessing the system over heated, without the condenser fan running, and blew the o-ring.
Here is my question.
Should I replace the o-ring, pull a vacuum and recharge, or replace the compressor?
Everything seems to be working great now that the fan is running.
No noise or vibration from the compressor at all BUT I know the pressure will be back to zero tomorrow.
The compressor actually looks pretty new. I figure the previous owner must have had a problem with the A/C system (due to the green dye) and maybe replaced the compressor before selling.
