Hello everyone! I just bought an Ek hatch with a b16a swap. Very clear swap imo, no check engine lights or crazy vibrations from the front end. Interior is also clean. However, the other day I took the car to a back road and gave it full gas, it hit the limiter at 7500 rpm. On Wiki a b16a gen 1 is supposed to hit redline at 8000 rpm and gen 2 at 8300 rpm. The more I cleaned the engine bay I realized there is a lot of Frakenistine wiring going on even tho the motor is running good. So my question is, is 7500 redline okay for a b16a? I rather not risk swapping out an ECU or something else for the car to go completely dead on me.
I did find the ECU on the passenger side footwell, I'll post a picture. The ECU is where there is a lot of wiring and tapping going on. I was actually scared to clean around the area because I didn't wanna damage any wiring.
Hey guys sorry for the late reply! This is my ECU with a bunch of Frankenstein wiring going to it. TBH I'm scared to even fiddle with it. I believe its a stock SIR ECU because on wiki it says "The Si trim (Canadian SiR trim) used the DOHC 16v B16A2 engine with VTEC. It produced 160 hp (119 kW) at 7,600 RPM" and my car literally hits revs limiter at 7500-7600 RPM. Pics below. Thanks again guys
Thats an OBD1 ECU using an adapter harness (super common for engine swapping and tuning OBD2 Hondas)
If oyu unbolt it, there will be a sticker on the side that indicated what the ECU version is, but there is a good chance it has been chipped, making that irrelevant. You can remove the lid and see if its chipped (google for pics of what that looks like).
