98 Accord changing Catalytic Converter question
I've had a check engine light on in my 98 accord ex 4 cylinder for about 6 months. It's 2 codes which both are Catalytic Converter issues. I bought a new CAT online and it was bolt on. Every CAT I seen for my car was bolt on. I watched several videos and they were all bolt on. My cars CAT is welded on, it's not bolted. My question is, do you think someone has changed this before? Or did my car come stock welded? How do you go about welding a bolt connector CAT? Should I buy a new one that I can welded on? I have a friend that can weld it.
All OEM Accord catalytic converters are bolt-in. If yours is welded to the flex pipe and b-pipe it has been swapped out.
How to weld in new bolted flanges.
buy 2 new flanges that match your new converters flanges. bolt the new flanges onto your cat with the gaskets in and measure it from end to end. Cut a section of the exhaust out using that measurement including the welded cat. Set the new cat with flanges in place in your exhaust and tack weld it in place. Remove the new cat and finish welding in the new flanges.
Or take it to a muffler shop and have them weld in a new cat.
