2002 Honda CRV ...Not sure exactly what I have. Most likely some kind of short?
Fired up the V and within about a minute just abruptly died. Flashed the ENG light and died. Would not restart. Key off, back on, and no fuel pump sound and some lights on the dash not normal.
Fiddled with it a little and got it to start, ran it up to 2k rpm and it would run but definitely an intermittent flash of the ENG light and abrupt death but would almost as instantly re come alive with hardly any loss to RPM.
No codes but when I attach the OBD reader it works normally. Key on and I can here the fuel pump, lights on dash test and go to normal, fires up fine and runs without issue. Disconnect OBD reader and instant death.
Checked a bunch of fuses and have looked over some wiring diagrams but not sure where to start or go from here.
May I have some hints or has anybody experienced similar malfunctions?
I saw some ICM stuff in a search but that is not in my ignition system.
I lean to something in the ECU/PCM shorting as the OBD reader may be bypassing the short or connecting something that is not and should be connected (this).
I guess I drive around with the OBD reader installed until I get this wack thing fingered out...
Usually if a car starts with the OBD reader connected, then it indicates a possible ground issue. The OBD reader is probably supplying the ground with it connected.
Check ground G101 and the Brn/Yel wiring going to junction connector C103.
Wow brother, that was good. What a master...I had actually discounted the injectors being changed as that was at least 100 miles back. The G101 bolt holding the ground was tight, but the grd was loose. It looked like the bolt had bottomed in the hole so I swapped with a shorter bolt. The shorter bolt would not tighten and I guess the threads in the hole are messed up. For now I repositioned the grd to the cable mount bracket to the left as I do not have the plastic cover installed. Ops ck normal.
Thanks a million man. I had the glovebox out and was looking for this inertia switch button to troubleshoot the MIL light inop (11-102) and so far have not found the inertia switch but a moot point. Thanks again sir. I do appreciate that.
