Default 16 Pilot Hydraulic Tensioner

Hello - I just had my 16 Pilot in for service at the dealer to get the injectors replaced under warranty - I have the Honda Care plan. They informed me that the timing belt tensioner is leaking and recommended I replace the belt, pulleys, tensioner, water pump, etc for $1200. When I said no he offered to get the tensioner covered under the warranty and then I would just owe like $700. I still said no so I could research a little bit. Do I need to replace everything, or can you do just the tensioner without causing damage to the belt? Also - does anyone know whether the $700 is a fair amount for the rest of the work, or if the whole job should only cost that in the first place. (or if Honda should cover the whole thing under the warranty for that matter). Thanks in advance if anyone has any knowledge in this area!

$700 is a seal for a timing belt service. You can't even buy the parts for that.

If the timing belt is contaminated with oil I would highly recommend replacement.

Same engine and tensioner if you wanted more detailed info.

Thanks! I saw that post and they linked to a kit that included all the parts for $200 - that’s why I thought $700 might be the going price. If it’s a legit deal, then maybe I’ll just do it.

Oh the Aisin kit. Yeah, that is an OE kit just no Honda logos. If you go to Honda to buy the parts it will be over $700.

Bought an Acura with the 3.7 that just had a timing belt done at the Acura dealer to the tune of $2,100! And that was well before Covid pricing.

Just did a timing belt on a 3.5 and had to go with the Aisin water pump as Honda is back ordered with no ETA on water pumps right now. I would say depending on miles a valve adjustment might be worth while. However valve cover gaskets are also back ordered.
