Default Transmission problems??

So i just replaced the the clutch and transmission on my 98 dx, i installed a z6 tranny, after replacing it I noticed the transmission goes into gear without me having to press the clutch, mind you, i have the car on towers and the passenger side axel is not in but the driver side is. Could that be my issue? It was my 1st time replacing a tranny so i have no i idea now what it could be. I also bled the clutch.

When you say it goes into gears, do you mean you shift it using the lever? You should be able to select any gear at any time with the engine off and the car not moving. The clutch only separates the engine from the transmission, so it's only useful when the engine is running.

Like i could shift it without having to use the clutch while the car was on, and on jacks without the wheels. Thanks man. Damn all i had to do was put the wheels on and drop it to the ground 😂
It was my 1st time Doing this tranny and clutch replacement and i was scared as hell i thought i fucked up.

I know, I get nervous as hell when doing major surgery like that. One suggestion, you probably shouldn't start the engine and let the clutch out without fluid in the transmission. You are meshing gears and synchros without any lubrication. I doubt you hurt anything, because there is no load on the drivetrain, but it just doesn't seem like a good idea. Enjoy those close ratios!
