93 civic fuel pressure falls drastically after 340 lph pump installed.
Hello, recently I've been having issues with my 340lph fuel pump. It randomly drops fuel pressure while just casually driving or idling to the point of stalling the car. I had some people tell me that the pump was probably the culprit, so I bought the same pump, in the mean time, my friend let me borrow his 8th gen civic si pump to confirm that was the issue. The car drove perfectly, no stalling ever occurred, and fuel pressure stayed at 50 psi. I just got the new pump in today and the same thing happened, it immediately stalled and fuel pressure bounced between 10 to 20 psi, I have tried adjusting the fpr with no change. I have the DW fuel pump hardware kit installed. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Okay, I have an update to the situation. So, I had a friend let me borrow his fuel pump from his 8th gen civic si. I installed it and the car was able to start and idle and drive with no hitches. So, I figured the AEM 340lph pump was bad, so I ordered a new one. I installed it with the same issue. I had a problem similar to this when the car was low on fuel, so I went and put some gas in it and it is fine. It seems to only do this when I'm at about half a tank, but I'm confused why I have this issue when I use the AEM pump, but not my friend pump. I tried a new fuel strainer from an integra on the pump with no change. Does anyone have any ideas?
Honda pump is designed for the fuel sock in use. The AEM is probably designed for a different setup. The behavior you describe is the same as a Honda pump with a bad sock on it or the sock fell off etc.
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, the car has been sitting for a while as I previously was having the exhaust dump right below the cabin until I could get the rest of the exhaust on. I have an integra sock on it now, which I was told was the same design as the 92-95 civic fuel sock. I can double check to see if the sock feels lose or if it fell off. Will provide an update this weekend.
Feel pretty stupid about this one lol. Turns out the reason it was doing that was because of the fuel hose that connects the fuel pump to the assembly was too lose. I learned my lesson, and to just use a socket to guarantee it will be tight enough.
Just wanted to update this for anyone else that has a similar issue.
