Socket/Part "5" for reference.
Same part for driver & passenger sides.
Well, hello there!
I have a 2000 Civic DX hatchback that needs a new front passenger (front right) turn signal/running light/hazard blinker socket. I replaced the original with a Dorman for GM models as it was the only three-wire, two-contact socket I could find in local parts shops for an 1157NA bulb. Well, not only did the Dorman fail me as expected by having a loose bulb-to-socket connection between the contacts, but also the ground wire isn't stable within its housing. Time for an OE replacement.
...however, I cannot find the wiring harness from the connector to the main harness..? I'm barely an ameteur electrician and mechanic, so I don't know if any old wire of the same size will fit between my original main harness and the run/turn/hazard blinker socket connector. Either way, I would rather have a single harness between my socket and main harness rather than two splices; one for the new wiring to connector, and another between the new wiring and the main harness.
I have a few questions that could provide me with a fix (feel free to insert questions/answers I did not know to ask):
What gauge & type of wire are the running, blinking, & ground wires going to the OE socket harness connector? And, will any ol' wire do the trick?
Does anybody have the P/N (part number) for the original harness that the front passenger running/turn/hazard socket connector goes to? (between C213, G201, and the Front Engine Compartment Wire Harness, Diagram 1?)
Does anybody have an OE or aftermarket brand or P/N recommendation for the complete harness OR just the connector with the wire harness or three-wires coming from it? (Part 5, Diagram 2, but with connector and wires?) [That is not a Dorman]
Can I change the socket/connector/harness to a different bulb type/number without experiencing problems related to resistance, voltage, amperage, etc.? [Anecdotal same question for headlamp harness; can I change bulb types with ease?]
Do you prefer to use wire nuts + electrical tape, male to female disconnect connectors, crimp type connectors, heat shrink and butt connectors, etc. options, when splicing this kind of harness in? Which is best, and what is your process?
I really appreciate any and all responses. Thank you for your knowledge, expertise, and help!
