I ALMOST have this car roadworthy. I've done sooo much work and there's still much more to do BUT it's running strong and driving .
However today after i added fresh gas and tightened the cold air intake, it began running really rich. so much so that it smelled
like i had a gas leak. The cold engine high idle stopped working. so i began poking around and found the problem. what
is this thing? I tapped on it and refitted the vacuum line and the problem vanished. I'm assuming that it's an idle-up solenoid.
anyway, problem temporarily solved. but then i parked it in my driveway and noticed water streaming down my driveway and out
the tailpipe! holy $ht I thought it was coolant but it had not antifreeze in it so that was a big relief. turns out it was running down from
somewhere in the unibody from the torrential rains we've been getting. there's a small rust hole near the trunk hinge and i'm pretty sure
that's the culprit. anyway, can someone tell me what is this part that is just to the side of the fuel filter? THANKS.
That is your MAP sensor... make sure the vacuum line is snug on both ends and there are no cracks or pin-holes in the hose between the MAP sensor and the throttle body. If this is all good, you may have to replace the MAP sensor.
OK, thanks.... when it was idling super-rich i started poking around and noticed that this was the culprit.
I'm learning a lot by working on this little pos. i'm amazed that i have it running and ripping. it will soon be my daily driver.
