Default Think I got a blown head gasket

Alright. Think I got a blown head gasket. I could be wrong and I pray that I am.

few weeks ago been doing doordash for some extra cash. Along the way I noticed my temp gauge would fluctuate. Now I banged on my dash and it would right back up to operating temp so I'm thinking it's a temp sensor or maybe a thermostat

Then a few times my temp gauge would go up to the middle line but not up to hot. Would go back down to operating temp when driving and I would put it in park no overheating or anything. Cooling fans are working fine

Car motor sounds healthy af in idle

And I noticed when I was driving for awhile pretty much all day my cooling resevoir was not only overflowing but boiling. The coolant sucked back into the radiator tho.

I dont know what the problem could be

I kinda doubt it's the thermostat cuz 2 years ago I change it with an OEM Honda stat for preventive maintenance along with an Aisin water pump new radiator hoses timing belt etc so I would have to worry about ANY that.

I DONT SEE COOLANT leaking on the ground or anything which kinda leads me to the head gasket.

Now if it is the head gasket. I'll take the L and do what I have to. My car still functions and drives so I'll just take it to and from work till I get another car. But help and suggestions would be great

Thanks all.

Sounds like a head gasket. Try a compression test to help diagnose.

Agreed. Coolant overflowing / boiling in reservoir is a bad sign.

Hey all I'm gonna be on vacation this week. When I get from it I'll have it taken for a compression test. Now if it is indeed the head gasket is it worth replacing? I can order the parts from a website and have my mechanic install it. Car still functions well and drives pretty good. I dont have milky oil. No coolant oil mix etc.

It is absolutely worth doing. I did mine at about 120,000 miles or so and used a fel-pro head gasket (which is on clearance right now on Rockauto). I helped my mechanic with the job, but it can be a DIY type job if you are mechanically inclined.

My symptom was that the car would cool fine under normal driving, but under any kinda spirited driving, combustion gases would leak into the cooling system (bubbling in the radiator and overflow). Oddly, mine passed a compression test fine, but i didn't have access to a leakdown test to really check it out, but by process of elimination it HAD to be the headgasket. Changed and problem solved.

If you are going to change head gasket, it is a good opportunity to take off the valve cover and change that gasket if you haven't already. Also a good idea to look around the head for any cracks or issues before mounting back up with your brand new head gasket. It may be worth getting an extra PCV valve, egr gasket, spark plug tube seals, distributor seals etc since you are already going to be in there changing things.

Good luck and happy wrenchin
