Can I use a JBP part on a KCP Accord?
My catalytic converter was stolen off my 2003 Accord and I've already purchased a new one, Walker. I took it to a shop to have it welded on and the guy told me that I bought the wrong cat because my car belongs to the KCP part family and the new cat is part of the JBP part family, and that it would be $1,300 to fix my car. I think he was trying to hustle me because even the Walker website lists the same part for my car but I'm worried as to whether or not it will pass smog if I use the cat I purchased.
You're fine, and he's trying to make.money off of you because you didn't get the parts through him. Run elsewhere... PRONTO!!
Thank You! I just needed some type of confirmation that it would be alright, I would hate to have my new cat welded on and then end up junking the car the next time it's up for smog, you know
Since it appears you're in California. If your engine group is 3HNXV02.4KCP and the Walker has the CARB Executive Order D-182-64, Engine Family Number (EFN) 3HNXV02.4JBP it would not pass smog if the smog tech does the visual part of the inspection properly and then checks the CARB EO. There is no replacement after-market SULEV cat available. It only is legal if the Bureau of Automotive Repair gave a waiver.
DCFIVER stated something similar to this in another Honda Accord thread before. There are no aftermarket SULEV converters available. Only ULEV. The EFNs are different.

Good luck. OEM cat conv are on national backorder. I have 2 accords sitting at my work lot with stolen cats. our local Honda dealer shows an ETA of 2023 (possibly b/c of no eta avail)
