Default Rebuilding a J35Z5 from scratch (mostly) need help.

Hello,

There was a time as a shadetree mechanic and all purpose "learn and fix" guy that was pretty rewarding. That seems to have changed a little bit. The J Series motors are very cool and I think they have a lot of aftermarket potential. In fact, I plan to find out what the limits are to an all motor build....if I can assemble the motor correctly. I have never built this motor before and it is mostly going well and it feels familiar. However, I am starting to lose a little confidence as the build seems to need smaller and smaller parts that I have never seen. For example, I know what heads, springs and valves are for and how they should work, VTEC is very cool and I mostly get it. What I am not familiar with is the enormous reliance of these motors on sensors and coordinated sensor input to make them run. Originally, I thought....how hard can it be? Label the wiring harness when I pull it off and stick it back on, right?
Anyway, is there anyone out there who can confirm a location change for the J35Z5 crank position sensor in 2010? The one I thought I installed correctly on my build engine was located on the oil pan. Other sources indicate installation of this sensor near the crank gear with all the other timing/cam assembly but I think that is for 2009 models. Would love a confirmation or a heads up on this one. Thank you.
