I believe I have a leaking oil pressure switch. I do not think this is the vtec switch, I think it is the regular plain oil pressure switch. Am I right?
I just want to verify, as many of the switches on rock auto look different. My wire harness most definitely has 2 wires coming to this sensor. I disconnected it and the connector was saturated with oil.
Yes, the oil on your ECT plug/sensor would likely be coming from a leaking distributor O-Ring or inner shaft seal (and leaking out of the vent on the bottom of the distributor). Check those things and repair as necessary. Clean the ECT sensor and harness plug and reconnect. Clean the area around the oily wet locations with Brake Clean. Drive for a couple of days as you normally would and reinspect the area. Your leak will come from the highest and furthest back wet area... remember that the oil will drop downward and forward toward the front of the engine because of the engine's lean angle.
Actually I took the distributor off today and I did not know this but it is an aftermarket one. ( I bought the car used with 74k on it, and now I have 90k - it had a misfire on it that they could not fix so I got it cheap)
anyways, I bought a seal kit, and when I tore the distributor down I realized the inner seal (not the outer o-ring) is different than both of them that came in the seal rebuild kit. (because my distributor is not factory) The thing is the aftermarket distributor was really clean inside- so I don't think that's where my oil was coming from. Maybe the valve cover?
I went through a whole can of brake-clean just removing oil and grime so hopefully it will be easier to see where the oil is coming from.
