Ignition lock problem after cylinder fix - Honda Ridgeline 2006
Hi folks!
I'm a norwegian owner of a 2006 Ridgeline RTL, with a mileage of around 120.000. Being super-rare in this part of the world, I've no other option than asking for help on this site.
I've had a bad ignition lock cylinder for months. Due to the high costs of getting the right parts to Norway for an imported vehicle, I decided to try to solve this myself. I'm not a mechanic, but I've kept this wonderful car running for 9 years, doing most of the maintenance and repairs myself. Including more advanced repairs. However, this time I'm really stuck.
I removed the trims surrounding the ignition lock, deactivated the battery, removed the roll pin holding the lock cylinder, and pulled it out. It had only one bad wafer, which was easy to remove. Now the key would rotate without any issues. I assembled the cylinder back together and installed it back into the ignition lock housing.
This is when the problem came. The key wouldn't turn. Wiggling the steering wheel (which was locked) while trying to turn the key, didn't work. All the cables and stuff are naturally attached.
Does anyone know what to do to solve this?

Thanks in advance!

However, the ignition lock is kind of hard to remove from the column. I had to use a hammer and and a small chisel to loosen the bolts holding the ignition lock housing in place. When you re-install it, make sure you use new bolts. (I didn't "break the heads" on those bolts after reinstall. https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuin...2-sv4-003.html)

Bare hyggelig (you welcome).
I'm just glad to help out. I also spent quite a bit of time searching and searching for the right solution. Actually, I wanted to make a YouTube video with the exact thing that I did, but time passed by and I forgot all about it.
Now I'm just waiting for the weather to cool down a bit, so that I can replace the door-lock on the rear door, driver's side. It's the second lock that've failed in a couple of years, albeit on another door, plus the door-handle wire.
Take care!

This is awesome, thank you for this! I was able to get the ignition assembly off and do this. I just paid $250 for an ignition rebuild and the key still wouldn’t turn AND still had to pay the locksmith, so I was very disappointed. Took about 30 minutes.
Hi! There's a pin going into the steering column, from the lock/housing, that makes it impossible to turn the key. I had to remove the housing from the steering column, and manually press the pin back inside the housing. The following video will show you exactly what I did to fix it, from around 15:30:

Fixed my tumbler and it seemed to work but I think I have the locked wheel problem from the video. Thanks for posting as I couldn't find anything from Dr. Google other then the old "turn the wheel to unlock" bs!!
