Default running engines still available?

Hey, I have been out of the honda game for quite a while. I recently came across a 93 civic lx 4 door auto (never owned an auto one yet) that is fairly clean but needs an engine for $400. I just wanted this car for a cheap commuter car for work to throw miles on. i remember years ago you could get running d series engines for super cheap. I decided to look on all my local classifieds and couldn't even find any d series engines at all. are all the engines for these cars getting rare now? and are these cars now not as good of an option for something cheap to keep on the road?

It is true that engines for the older Civics are harder and harder to find... especially if you want a nice one. You can still find them cheap, but chances are good that those engines aren't worth their scrap value. If you want a known good SOHC, you are going to pay a premium for it. The days of finding a solid running SOHC that will last for years for $200-300 are long gone.

that sucks to hear about. I mean I guess that happens with anything with time. I didn't even see expensive ones for sell in my area.

Your best bet is a b20 engine from the gen 1 crv's. I see those often at importers for very cheap (under 700). If you do decide to keep the car as as auto, then the integra automatic trans are super cheap as well.

I was thinking about that as well. But I couldn’t find info on swapping autos from b series engines. And if I swapped to manual then I would have to locate a b18b trans or something and I didn’t see one of those on h motors

Pay shipping from CA. There's plenty in the junkyard.

Get all the manual parts off a 5spd Integra including the intermediate shaft and rear motor mount. Those are different from automatic Integras.

Because its hard to find good GSRs/Type Rs and transmissions. A B16 head sells for more than a 200hp K24 longblock.

Maybe not with D series stuff, but nowadays you can do a K24 swap for comparable cost of a built B series, and the K parts are much more available.

Idk how hard it is to find engine parts but they sure have gone up in price. Everything is way more expensive nowadays.

I bet they would sell quick at $400.

I sold my cable B16 trans with factory LSD for $900 and Ive seen hydro CTR/ITR transmissions go for a lot more than that.
