After replacing my belt due to failing cam seals, I noticed it's slightly off the cams. Very slightly. I dit not really notice when i took it off originally, so I have no real reference.
I am running a KS manual tensionner, for a long time now. I adjusted the best I could between not too tight and not too loose (depending on the "stroke", it will be tight or average"). While turning the crank by hand I never noticed it. I ran the engine for about 30 min varying RPM range, from idle to about 5k rpm. You can see the belt it not overly tight, but not too loose as to slam everywhere.
I measured the portion of the belt hanging out from the cam, could only check exhaust since the way the engine fits, I have .025" of belt out. It did not change.
For the moment I plan to run it as-is, and periodically cheking the belt.
You guys think it's safe? I need to get the car running ASAP (other projects to finish , god damn I hate being an full-of-responsabilities-no-time-to-spare-adult lol)
Well, I rechecked everything, and for sure will not remove the waterpump since the engine is full of new coolant. Did not find anything out of alignment
I did loosen the belt, and after running until warmup the belt is definitely not off the cam gears in the top section (valve cover on, checked with inspection camera) and by measuring about 1/2" lower from the valve cover lower surface, the belt "out" measurement is maxed at .010".
I will run it like this keeping an eye out periodically and measuring to make sure it stays there.
You stated a measured amount of timing belt sticking out past the front side of the cam gear was .010"... as in .25mm... correct ?
The picture above appears to be much greater than this.
