Why does my engine sound sick !
Noob here, please listen to the noise that my Civic EG 1.6 Single cam 1995's engine. Is this normal for an old engine or my valves are in trouble. The car drives like normal. I even asked a mechanic, he said that its normal. Is this sound normal ? Should be very worried ? Thank you.

Videos rarely capture sounds well. I heard the tappets working normally and what sounded like a pretty normal older high mileage engine. Not knocking yet and might be bordering on service limit taper but running decent.
One little part right in middle of video, not sure if that was a spurt of noise from the car or if it was from hand cupping mic or what not, was the only part I thought, bearings in a pulley starting to go. On the engine, the only part that would have that issue to that level of sound would be the timing belt tensioner. If that tiny spurt of sound is what you were talking about hearing in person regularly, the tensioner might need replacing. Alternator might have a bearing or two that could sound like that too but it would be in the back corner you'd hear it.
Distributor bearings are so small I don't believe they'd get that full bodied in the sound.
Other than that tiny bt in the middle of the video which could easily be just how you held the phone right at the moment or the phone making contact with the vibrating engine, engine sounds pretty normal.

Thank you for your reply.
"Not knocking yet and might be bordering on service limit taper but running decent"
i will check on this as i had no idea that tit had to be serviced

Glad you noticed it. The sound is there all the time, you heard it better because i moved my phone closer to the engine so that you guys can hear the sound
that level of sound would be the timing belt tensioner.
I actually changed the tensioner as a set together with the timing belts a couple of years ago when i bought this car
at least i have a few leads now, will take it to a mechanic and see what he says. Hope its nothing major. The engine is JDM though, previous owner changed it. I just use for sort distances. All i can remember is that the engine was quiet when i bought it.
