The guy my son and grand son bought this civic from has a d16y7 engine(switched from a racing engine??) with a KA 5MT. Anyway, will the breather pipe from a d16y8 ( Breather pipe 17135-P2T-000 d16y7) engine work on the d16y7 (Breather Pipe (17135-P2A-000), KA MT5? The engine has a d16y8 throttle body. The engine ran but not well, vacuum leaks, hoses capped off and some electrical connectors not hooked up. My son and grand son completely tore down the engine, in great shape. Everything clean no, tight, valve adjuster correctly and no metal in the oil/pan. Cant find the breather pipe, don't remember if there was one. Any comments will be appreciated.
If Honda stuck to the same route, the bottom pipe is coolant while the top pipe is vacuum. I'm not familiar with the 96-00 series so will have to look it up.
Do these pipes serve the same function and connect the same way? Are they interchangeable, except for the different design. the top pic is a d16y8, bottom pic d16y7. There wasnt one on the 2000 Honda Civic EX when our son and grand son bought the car with the D16y7 engine and a D16y8 intake4 and d16ya manual trans throttle body. Thanks
Dave
The breather goes from valve cover to the intake tube
The coolant line connects from head near upper rad hose connection to behind the thermostat housing.
For sure hook up the breather, best to have a closed system. I use clear tubing for that one so I can see what going through it. But even if you had it open or even capped it would not cause a vacuum leak or rough running.
Dumb question, which one is the breather pipe, which is which since it never had one on it. A lot more complex then the old muscle cars, Our sones71 Camaro. Really appreciate the information.
Dave.
